R18

R18 Adult Affiliate Program “After 9 years of helping people discover and share great contents, R18 will stop selling content from October 24, 2022. From this date, users will have access to their already purchased content only. A few months later, from January 31, 2023 the site will be completely closed and accessing purchased content will not be possible. For this reason, the affiliate program will be closing soon also.”

Affiliates looking for an adult program with copious amounts of high quality Japanese porn should have a look at R18. Although the R18 program has just a single site of the same name, with their massive library of content – that is only growing larger due to a steady update schedule – that’s really all they need. R18 would best be described as a VOD program, paying their affiliates a recurring 25%. The R18 program tour also claims to offer an additional PPS option which pays affiliates 90% for initial sales of their channel subscriptions. However, we have our doubts that is actually the case, and we are totally OK with that. [Review updated 06/21/2022]

Summary

Alright, so let’s start off with what IS available for affiliate promotion. The R18 program provides their affiliates with several landing pages, lots of banners, and a link generator that allows affiliates to turn any page or search result on the R18 site into their very own affiliate gallery and/or landing page. Also, the R18 program tour welcomes affiliates to make use of any image on site in their promotion, though they do request those images not be edited, enlarged, or have text placed over them, ie watermarked.

So, why do we think that 90% PSS is a bull-shit claim? First, using that link generator we mentioned above, we generated link after link to the channel pages, checkout pages, and special subscription offers, and for each of them the link details listed the default payout of 25% for joins and rebills. So then we thought perhaps our default program for promotion is the 25% revshare and we needed to change it before creating our links. We went to the display settings page to make the necessary changes, and when we opened the drop down menu we saw the payout percentage listed for VOD and E-comics recurring sales, but empty brackets for the monthly subscriptions where the payouts should have been specified. So, it looks as if either a) they have eliminated the 90% PPS option and have not updated the tour, or b) that option is only available upon request. Either way, it is not immediately available.

At this point, we’re going to play devil’s advocate and put forward that eliminating the 90% PPS option is actually a good thing. First, $0.90/2 day trials are offered with those channel subscriptions ($2.80 for Prime which gives access to them all), so that would translate to one time affiliate commissions of $0.73 ($2.52) and that’s rounding up! If the customer converts after that trial, and if they stay a member for months to come, with the PPS option the affiliate already made their single 90% pittance. However, with the 25% revshare model, affiliates would earn $0.23 ($0.70) for the trials, then $6.62 ($21.23) for each and every month the member maintains their subscription. We’ll take it.

With an ever increasing library of high quality authentic Japanese content, R18 has no shortage of promotional opportunities to affiliates promoting the Asian niche. That said, a little more versatility among their promo tools certainly wouldn’t hurt, but we do not think it should be a deal-breaker.
